Because a beautiful burn begins with mindful care.
At Lady M Candle Co, each candle is hand-poured with intention, made to bring light, luxury, and calm into your space. But to get the very best from your candle — from scent throw to burn time — a little extra care goes a long way.
Here’s everything you need to know to enjoy your Lady M candle safely, beautifully, and for as long as possible.
🕯 1. The First Burn is Everything
When you light your candle for the first time, let it burn until the entire surface has melted all the way to the edges. This usually takes 2–4 hours depending on the size. This helps create a full melt pool, preventing tunnelling and setting the stage for an even burn every time.
Why it matters: Wax has a memory. If you don’t allow a full melt on the first burn, the candle may tunnel down the centre on future burns, wasting wax and reducing scent throw.
✂️ 2. Trim Your Wick Before Each Burn
Before each lighting, trim your cotton or wooden wick to 5mm. This helps control the size of the flame, reduces smoke and soot, and keeps your candle burning cleanly and evenly.
Pro tip: Use wick trimmers or nail scissors. For wooden wicks, gently pinch or file off the burnt tip once cooled.
🔥 3. Burn Time Matters
Don’t burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time. Extending burn time can lead to wick movement, overheating, and reduced scent quality. Always allow the wax to cool and reset before relighting.
🌬 4. Avoid Drafts & Direct Sunlight
Place your candle away from open windows, fans, or vents. Draughts can cause uneven burning, excessive flickering, and even splattering of wax. Direct sunlight or heat can discolour your candle and affect its fragrance.
🛑 5. Know When to Say Goodbye
When only 1cm of wax remains, it’s time to retire your candle. Burning beyond this point can cause the vessel to overheat or crack. But don’t worry — our vessels are too pretty to toss! Repurpose them as planters, trinket holders, or keepsake jars.
💡 6. Store With Love
Store your candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. This helps preserve both the wax and the fragrance, keeping your candle looking and smelling as beautiful as the day it was poured.
The Final Glow
Candle care is more than just safety — it’s a ritual. A way to slow down, connect with your space, and honour the intention behind the light. With a little mindfulness, your Lady M candle will not only last longer, but fill your moments with warmth, fragrance, and meaning.
Because every flame deserves to be cared for — especially one that carries a legacy.
With love,The Lady M Candle Co Team
